Recovery After Varicose Vein Treatment

legsRecovery After Varicose Vein Treatment

Recovery after varicose vein treatment will depend on case severity. Procedures such as Venefit or thermal endovenous ablation make recovery faster and less painful.  After an ablation procedure, patients are advised to return in a few days for an ultrasound examination. Subsequent follow-up visits are also recommended after three months, six months, and twelve months, particularly for preventative purposes. It is important to keep in mind that preventative care is equally important as the actual treatment. The use of compression stockings is strongly recommended before and after treatment. Blood pressure is highest towards the toes; compression stockings help distribute the flow of blood higher in the leg.

In some severe cases, patients must be sure to elevate their legs to direct blood flow to the heart post-treatment. Sitting or standing for long periods of time is discouraged. Loose clothing – particularly around the legs and abdomen – is suggested. Flat shoes must also be worn. It is best to discuss these outcome possibilities with our Vein Specialists during your evaluation in any of our locations in the NYC area at Brooklyn or Midtown Manhattan.
